Several years ago, SMA was approached by a customer with a need to combine the output of several high-brightness LED devices into a single fiber bundle. We applied the precision collector shapes that we had been modeling with a multi-channel acrylic molded combiner to enable the output of up to 9 LEDs to be efficiently captured and combined. Modeling predicted high efficiency with the molding of the acrylic shape. Subsequent molding and testing confirmed this fact.
