Telescopic Optics
Telescopes can take a variety of forms. Celestial telescopes usually are a combination of aspheric reflectors and refractive elements, while rifle and other forms of terrestrial telescopes are generally purely refractive.
More recently, telescopes have begun to embody electro-optic components including CMOS or CCD image sensors, OLED or LCD image displays and even image stabilizers.
Image stabilizers usually take one of two forms: either a variable angle prism element, or a zero (optical) power combination of elements that shifts one of two lenses laterally to deflect the optical axis.
Some of these telescopes are equipped with a low light level image intensifier tube for use under star-lit/low light level conditions.
