The design of a catadioptric telescope using 2 precision plastic components and delivering nearly diffraction-limited performance at F/1.35 (F/1.43 equivalent) was an interesting design task.

This design is suitable for volume manufacture and is designed for a 1 inch diagonal high-resolution CCD sensor array. The material is hydrophobic and therefore may be immersed in water without loss of optical performance. The focal length is 222mm. The system delivers nearly diffraction-limited performance over a 6.4 degree field of view - with only two components to align. Lateral color is a small fraction of the airy pattern. Distortion is less than 0.6%.
