SMA Project Example

SMA has a history of defining high-efficiency illumination systems, including those with LEDs.  With the knowledge and experience held by principles at SMA, the company has patented several devices based upon LEDs. We have recently performed modeling and development of devices to capture, combine, and even collimate the output of small numbers of LEDs.

We were approached with a need to combine the output of several high-brightness LED devices into a single fiber bundle. We applied the precision shapes that we had been modeling with a bifurcated acrylic molded combiner to enable the output of up to 9 LEDs to be efficiently captured and combined. Modeling predicts high efficiency with the successful molding of the acrylic shape.
