SMA Project Example

SMA has a history of defining high-efficiency illumination systems. This has included systems based upon LEDs. In fact, the principles at SMA have patented several devices based upon LEDs. We have recently performed modeling and development of devices to capture, combine, and even collimate the output of small numbers of LEDs.

While an LED combiner has been designed and prototyped, a second system is still in development modeling. This system model predicts that the output of from 3 to 12 LEDs may be combined and collimated with a beam divergence of only 5.3 degrees! (8 LED Version - 52mm Component diameter)
