SMA has implemented semi-automated processes together with proprietary design practices that enable the precision insertion of lens elements into plastic lens barrels with minimal part counts and proven centering capabilities under 20 microns.
Whether the lens design is all glass, hybrid, or entirely plastic, precision assembly is now possible with precision centering, tilt, and center spacing.

While low-volume assembly can most effectively be done totally by hand, and high-volume assembly justifies the expenditure of significant capital to achieve economies of scale, mid-volumes have always been particularly challenging. Quantities from hundreds to tens of thousands often do not warrant the expenditure of capital for specialized equipment.
