SMA’s business is directed by its founder and president, Steve Arnold.

Steve Arnold established SMA following more than two decades with Eastman Kodak Co. where he pioneered development of a variety of innovative technologies, including Kodak's first digital camera concept, digital optical data storage, digital image recorders, and rear projection digital displays.


His career at Kodak began in its Commercial & Government Systems, and continued in Kodak's Optical Products Division. He left Kodak voluntarily in 2000 to pursue opportunities in a highly dynamic optical industry. SMA represents his second technology startup.

Mr. Arnold provides technical as well as business direction for SMA. He holds advanced degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Optics, and applies this formal education with broad experience to meld imaging and illumination systems effectively. He is also named singly and jointly on 11 patents, all describing illumination and imaging system concepts.  Another patent pertaining to illumination is also pending.
