SMA was founded in 1999 and began operation in May of 2000. While initially conducting business primarily from customers’ locations, in 2002 SMA rented space at Rochester Technology Park, home to a variety of high technology manufacturing companies. More recently we have incorporated and relocated to the Lennox Tech Enterprise Center, where commercialization assistance and connections to key resources, including capital, are fostered.
SMA has continued to grow and add technical capability, thereby providing greater value to its customers. In addition to software tools necessary to undertake primary design tasks, SMA also has immediate access to a variety of metrology and machining resources.

The mission of SMA Optical Technologies is develop cutting edge optical subsystems for the global optical community through:
- Innovative lens design, optical engineering, illumination engineering, and optomechatronic engineering, thereby providing superior solutions for our customers.
